This file begins with a header which contains useful information about the Doppler recording equipment of the ESA radio antenna station: the Intermediate Frequency & Modem System (IFMS). A description can be found in the corresponding level 1b ranging label file in the note which describes the configuration_table. This level 1b label file has almost the same file name as this one. The only difference is that instead of 'L1A' the file name contains 'L1B'. It can be found in the corresponding subfolders under DATA/LEVEL1B/ for the data files. More information about the IFMS ranging file format can be found in the MaRS/RSI/VeRa file naming convention document MEX-MRS-IGM-IS-3016, ROS-RSI-IGM-IS-3087,VEX-VRA-IGM-IS-3009 which is located under DOCUMENT/MRS_DOC, DOCUMENT/RSI_DOC, DOCUMENT/VRA_DOC respectively. For a detailed description see chapter 6 in the IFSM-OCC interface control document IFMS_OCCFTP which is located under DOCUMENT/ESA_DOC. Please note that the header format changed in May gradually. In May 2005 the IFMS3 files already have the new header whereas IFMS1 and IFMS2 still contain the old header. Since end of May 2005 all IFMS files contain the new header. Below the header section the data section starts: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT NOTE: IFMS starts the ranging file recording before a lock on the downlink signal was established. This is indicated by the ambiguity flag being equal 'NO'. The numbers of these samples are not meaningful. Thus real data are denoted by ambiguity flag being 'YES' AND current code being greater equal 14. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 1st column contains the SampleNumber. The 2nd column contains the UTC ground received time of measurement in the format: CCYYMMDD.HHMMSS.sss . The 3rd column contains the Delay which is the signal round-trip delay modulo the maximum code ambiguity [s]. The 4th column contains the current code number. Possible values are {0,...,24}. Only data samples with values greater or equal 14 are used for further processing. The 5th column contains the ambiguity_done flag to indicate whether ambiguity was resolved (value in this case=YES) or not (value is in this case=NO). If value is NO the ranging tone from the spacecraft could not be received. Therefor only data with flag YES can be used for further processing. The 6th column contains a flag to indicate whether carrier is within the window of a known spurious frequency (value in this case=YES) or not (value is in this case=NO). The 7th column contains a flag to indicate whether the tone is within the window of a known spurious frequency (value in this case=YES) or not (value is in this case=NO). The 8th column contains a flag to indicate the success of the previous code correlation (if succesful value is YES, if not succesful value is NO). The 9th column contains the estimated Doppler effect KD-1 or more precisely the computed normalized Doppler shift calculated as follows: KD-1 = ( F_R - q * F_T )/( q * F_T ) where F_R is the frequency of the received signal at the groundstaion at given time, F_T is the frequency of the transmitted signal at the groundstation at given time, and q is the frequency turn-around ratio at the space craft. If F_T is constant, the numerator is the Doppler shift over the two-way time of flight. Also, if F_T is constant, KD-1 multiplied by the speed of light c yields the average radial velocity of the spacecraft x 2 relative to the ground station over the two-way time of flight. The 10th column contains a flag to indicate the Ranging receiver and demodulator unit (RGD) lock status. It is YES when lock was established and NO if not. It has to be YES for meaningful data. The 11th column contains the integrated tone level relative to the carrier level, not corrected with the actual Code Modulation Index [dB]. The 12th column contains the normalised integrated code level to the tone level. Value has not unit. The 13th column contains current phase error [cycle]. The 14th column contains estimated tone loop signal-to-noise ratio [dB]. The 15th column contains estimated downlink ranging modulation index [rad]." ^FILE = "R84ICL1L1A_RCX_160550732_00.RAW" PRODUCT_ID = "R84ICL1L1A_RCX_160550732_00.RAW" RECORD_TYPE = UNDEFINED START_TIME = 2016-02-24T07:32:22.000 STOP_TIME = 2016-02-24T07:34:39.000 END
