New Horizons Dust Counter (SDC) Calibration Reference Files - Overview
======================================================================

Content
-------
This collection contains 42 ancillary files used in the calibration of data
from the Dust Counter (SDC) instrument for all phases of the New Horizons
primary and extended missions. These files are not the result of SDC observations.
They consist of a set of ancillary files (coefficient table, mean DN table and
DN standard deviation table).

The files were presumably collected by the SDC team, but no attribution was
provided in the PDS3 data. The PDS4 migration was performed by SBN personnel,
who are credited as editor of this collection.

Note : Channel 11 is non-functional due to a broken capacitor connection
that occurred before launch; that channel generates spurious events
         that should be ignored.

This collection also contains the SDC calibration matrix has been converted,
from the four-dimensional array in the Primary Data Unit of a FITS file, to
these 42 ASCII tables to make the archive product compliant with PDS standards.
The number of digits displayed in the table is sufficient to reproduce the data
in the original FITS files, bit for bit.

PDS3 to PDS4 Migration Notes
----------------------------
The files originally included the header and the table. During the migration process
we removed the header from the tables files.

The PDS3 labels were not retained in the migrated PDS4 archive but are accessible
in archival copies of the PDS3 datasets retained in the NSSDCA deep archive.
